Cadmium is the new Lead...

That's what it seems like right now.  Over the past few years we have all heard the reports of how the hazardous substance Lead had become a major problem in childrens products.  News reports, website articles and blog entries (many on the Eastern Applied site) all pointed out the hazards that the toxic metal may cause children and the testing methods and regulations that would stop its harmful presence.

As 2010 begins, the new Lead seems to be Cadmium.  Equilly as dangerous (I believe Cadmium ranks 7th on the most hazardous substances list) it can cause a variety of health problems for children that come in contact with excessive levels; including cancer.  Cadmium concerns have grown as a result of the testing and awareness that Lead received over recent years.  It has been reported that to avoid using Lead in product; many manufacturers (overseas) began using Cadmium.  Now it is showing up - a lot.

Fortunately for users of the Handheld XRF Analyzer that Eastern Applied offers to detect Lead content in their product line; the analyzers can also detect Cadmium content.  So, a simple adjustment to the software package can provide all the content information required to assess a products level of cadmium and lead...its level of safety for children.
